Frequently Asked Questions:

  • • First time parents - learn all about labor, ensure a designated and consistent support person, and gain confidence in the transition into parenthood

    • Second or more time parents - receive “refresher” information, feel supported, learn how to help siblings adjust to the new baby while making time for your selves and your relationship

    • Parents who are expecting twins or higher order multiples - extra set of hands, learn how to deal with multiple infants’ needs as well as logistics of labor, feeding, and life with multiples

    • Parents who have adopted - learn how to integrate baby into your life

    • Family members - learn how to help baby and parents as well as yourselves in your unique role

    • For anyone who is looking to gain self-confidence, education about pregnancy, labor, parenting and newborn care

  • Partners can often feel overlooked during the perinatal phase since so much attention is spent on the birthing person and new baby. However, Partners are an essential member of the family and can do much more than hold hands and change dirty diapers! The job of the doula is to assist all members of the family so that they have a positive birth and postpartum experience.

Your birth doula provides professional educational guidance, reduces fear and anxiety, and ensures you feel confident while supporting your partner during labor.

Your postpartum doula can help guide Partner as s/he transitions into the new role as parent; she can offer practical suggestions and/or a listening ear and can help alleviate the pressure of having to take care of recuperating parent and baby. Your postpartum doula can answer questions, ease concerns, and help find special ways for every member of the family to bond with the newborn.

  • As soon as possible! But really, you should plan to hire a doula by the end of your second trimester. We recommend you interview with a few doulas before making your final choice and this can take time. Some doulas book up months in advance and its never too early to get the extra support.

  • The typical rate for a postpartum doula in this area is 30 - $60/hour. Our agency charges $40-45/hour and offers a variety of care options.

The typical fee for a birth doula in this area is $1000 - $2000. Our agency charges $1000-$1500 for comprehensive birth doula support.

Our agency also believe in the DONA International practice of “A Doula For Every Person Who Wants One”; if finances are a concern, please let us know and an alternative arrangement can try to be reached.

  • As of October 1, 2009, certified birth and postpartum doulas are now able to be assigned provider numbers to submit claims to both Medicaid and third-party payers for services. While this does not guarantee you will be reimbursed for doula services, having a provider number helps insurance companies process submitted claims more easily. It is always recommended that you submit a reimbursement claim for doula services to your individual insurance company. Our doulas have National Provider numbers and can offer a reimbursement packet to help you in this process.

  • Absolutely! Doula services make a great gift for all new and expecting families! Gift certificates can be created in any increment, by an individual or group of family members/friends, are perfect for baby shower and welcome home baby presents and can be used towards any new or existing doula service!

The work you do is literally life-changing. I will forever be thankful for all support you all have given me these last three months. I recommend Relief Doula Agency every chance I get!
